Using this site
We build Florida Civics Prep so a student can use it whatever device, connection or assistive technology they are working with. This page says plainly what we have checked, what we have not, and how to tell us when we have got it wrong.
What we aim for
We target the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. We have not commissioned an independent audit, so we describe that as our target rather than as a certified result.
What we have verified
- Text contrast is measured from the rendered pixels rather than judged by eye. Body text and interface labels are checked against the surface they sit on.
- Every page has a single, descriptive heading, with subheadings in order.
- Images carry alternative text, and decorative graphics are marked as decorative.
- The practice test and the exam player can be operated from the keyboard, and the question navigator states what is answered, marked for review and blank.
- Motion respects your system setting. If you have asked your device to reduce motion, our animations do not play.
What we have not verified yet
We have not completed a full screen reader pass across every page, and we have not tested with every combination of browser and assistive technology. Video lessons carry captions where the source recording provides them; a full captioning pass across the library is not finished.
If something is in your way
Tell us and we will fix it. Email info@getyourcivicson.com with the page, the device or assistive technology you are using, and what happened. If a barrier stops you completing something the course requires, say so and we will find another way to get it to you while we fix the page.
The exam itself
Accommodations for the Florida Civic Literacy Exam are arranged by your institution, not by us. Your testing or disability services office is the place to start, and the civic literacy requirement page explains who administers the exam.
