What Is the Florida Civic Literacy Exam (FCLE)?
Most students think the FCLE is about memorizing civics facts. It is not, and that is why so many fail it. The exam tests whether you can apply four competencies under pressure, in scenarios you have not seen before.
In high school it is a head start: you do not need it to graduate. In college it is the barrier, because Florida public colleges require you to satisfy the civic literacy requirement before they will award a degree, and the FCLE is how most students do it. Who Needs to Pass the FCLE?

High School Seniors
You'll take the FCLE in your senior year. You don't need to pass it to graduate high school, but passing now is a smart way to get college-ready and skip the stress later. Don't pass? You'll face it again in college, where it is required to earn your degree.
College Students
